This article states that in the 1950's Americans didn't take to their own Blues music. It was called race music. So, the black musicians traveled all over Europe and performed in Blues Festivals. Willie Dixon of Chess records arranged them. The artists were Muddy Waters, Browny McGhee, Big Bill Broonzy, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Sammy Boy Williamson, to name a few. The music that some Americans rejected because of the color of the people playing it took Europe by storm. They loved it and made it their own.
This article shows the music behind the British Invasion. It even has a list of Blues song that were sung by major Rock musicians like The Beatles,
Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, The Hollies, The Rolling Stones, The yardbirds etc.
According to the Grammy Museum, The British Invasion was not as it seemed. The so called New Sound was just reinterpreted American Blues, R& B music. The British artists themselves have never denied how they were influenced by the aforementioned American music. Some people think of the British invasion as Rock and Roll but that music was also invented in America when musicians started mixing blues music with hillbilly music.
